3 Ways to enjoy Earth Month as a Wine Lover

We're celebrating Earth Month this April with FREE SHIPPING on all Hong Kong orders. There are plenty of ways to take part in Earth Month, below we explore three ways that wine lovers can get involved.

1. Buy Organic or Natural Wine

Natural Wine is the holy grail of modern organic winemaking and is alwyas produced from from sustainable, organic, or biodynamic vineyards. It is made with minimal intervention at both the growing and production phase.

Organic wine on the other hand is a label used to denote that the grapes have been organically grown – meaning the wine is free of chemical and pesticide residues – which is much kinder to the environment.

You could say that Natural winemaking supports and enhances the biodiversity of the soil and the environment, whilst Organic wine removes chemicals and pesticides from the process of winemaking - both do 'less harm' and are better for the earth!

Minimum Wines is a great example of Natural Wine. It's Organic, vegan and hails from a small family vineyard in Victoria, Australia - where they practice regenerative viticulture.

2. Recycle or Reuse your bottles

Correctly recycling and reusing glass waste is one of the many ways we wine lovers can help the environment.

Before disposing of the glass bottle, give it a quick rinse. It doesn’t have to be sparkling clean, just free of the previously contained liquid. Put lids and caps back on the bottle – this reduces the chance of them being lost during the sorting process, and they can be recycled separately. It is just as simple as that!

For champagne and wine bottles, remove the cork and place it in your home compost bin (if you had one). These cannot be recycled. It’s important to note that not all glass can be recycled in household bins. Clear glass is fine, however, coloured glass such as blue or green is not always accepted.

If you're looking to recycle in Hong Kong, we collaborated with Love Recycling Plus a few months ago to offer one lucky winner a year's worth of door to door recycling . Check out our interview with the founder, Kenny Lam.

3. Look for Plastic Free Packaging

Isn't it frustrating when your wine delivery arrives and it's all packaged in styrofoam or excessive amounts of plastic padding and wrapping?

At Green Bottle Co. we have completed elimated plastic by exclusively using Flexi-Hex®. for all our packaging. Their sleeve is a patented, honeycomb design using minimal material. It's made from over 85% recycled paper pulp. All packaging is curbside recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. Flexi-Hex also use water-based PVA adhesive.

Earth Month is the perfect time to celebrate our planet and find ways to make a positive impact. Why not try all 3 of them? In April, we're offering FREE SHIPPING in Hong Kong on most products in our store to help you support Earth Month.
